Pietro Aloisi wins Northern Young Viticulturist of the Year 2019
Congratulations to our fabulous Viticulturist and winemaker; Pietro Aloisi who became the Bayer Northern Young Viticulturist of the Year 2019.
Pietro has been working at Ake Ake Vineyard since last August and is passionate about the varieties grown here. As well as working for us at Ake Ake, he has recently planted his own first Chambourcin vines, a varietal that does well in our region. Pietro has competed in this regional Young Vit competition for the last two years and was determined to take out the title this year. “I did a lot of work and study” he says. The hard work really paid off as Pietro was strong in all categories – both practical and theoretical and was on fire during the quick-fire buzzer round and the Hortisports race
The Bayer Young Viticulturist of the Year competition is a tough competition which helps grow the future viticultural leaders of New Zealand. Contestants are tested via both practical and theoretical challenges, on all aspects of vineyard management.
Well done Pietro we are very proud of you - John & Aynsley
